The easy availablility of high calorie foods has led to an epidemic of obesity both in the United States and around the world. It can often be difficult to feel in control of body weight, but these simple strategies can help establish the underpinnings of a successful weight control program.
Ways to Control Body Weight:

Controlling body weight is not an easy thing for anyone, but there are several concrete steps you can take to begin managing your weight today.

  • Exercise Regularly
  • Decrease your consumption of bad fats
  • Keep properly hydrated (8 glasses of water per day for an average adult)

Strategies to Avoid:

It is easy to become sidetracked and ultimately derailed in the quest for maintaining a healthy weight. The modern climate of fad diets and unrealistic expectations contribute to this problem. Recognize these key factors as barriers to success:

  • Fad Diets
Fad diets may offer short term gains but cannot be sustained, and often ultimately lead to more weight gain.

  • Unrealistic goals
You don't need to be a size 2 to live a longer and healthier life.

  • Rules that are Inflexible
Remember that weight control is a lifelong process, so planning to never again eat ice cream is setting yourself up to fail.

Talk to Your Doctor:

Whether you need to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds, your doctor is a valuable resource in making powerful lifestyle changes. Together you can explore options ranging from structured nutrition, to support groups, to more monitored medical interventions if necessary.

Weight loss can be difficult, but with dedication and support, you will succeed. Remember, you're not alone. Be sure to speak with your doctor or a trusted friend if you need help or encouragement.
