Definition:

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID) are the name given to the class of drugs that includes ibuprofen (Advil) and naproxen (Aleve).

NSAIDs get their name because they act like a steroid, decreasing the level of inflammation in the body, but do not actually contain any steroids or steroid derivatives.

NSAIDs have been shown to cause increases in blood pressure in some patients as a result of extra fluid retention and effects on kidney function.
