Definition:

The term "heavy metal" is a poorly defined tag used to refer to a variety of toxic metallic substances.

While not precise in definition, by common convention the term refers to elements including:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cobalt
  • Cadmium
  • Copper
  • Zinc
As most commonly used, the term "heavy metal" is negative, and suggests a situation where one of these substances is a contaminant potentially leading to illness.
