There are many things people with high blood pressure can do to help prevent a heart attack. All of these steps require commitment and dedication, but when followed, greatly lower your risk of having a blood pressure related heart attack.

Time Required: Lifelong Commitment
Here's How:
  1. Take your medicines as directed.
  2. Avoid participating at full speed in new, strenuous activities. Take things slowly in the beginning.
  3. Don't Smoke. If you smoke now, quit.
  4. Manage your weight. Even a 5% reduction in body weight is beneficial.
  5. Eat right by avoiding foods that are high in salt and fats, especially trans fats.
  6. Talk with your doctor and develop a regular exercise program
