Three Tests Recommended By Vascular Surgeons

Tuesday April 17, 2007

In a new statement, the Society for Vascular Surgery has announced that it is officially recommending three tests for all people age 55 or older who have known cardiovascular risk factors. These known risk factors include things like high blood pressure, smoking, existing heart disease, or family history of aneurysm.

The Society has recommended that these people have a trio of tests including:

  • Carotid Ultrasound - To look for fatty deposits that could lead to stroke
  • Ankle-Brachial Test - To check for fat deposits in the legs and body that can lead to impaired circulation
  • Abdominal Ultrasound - To check for aneurysm in the abdominal aorta
These tests are all fairly routine and can be scheduled through your regular doctor, though they will likely be performed by specially trained doctors or technicians.
